Question 3

Who provides bare metal servers and colocation in Nairobi, Kenya?

Accepted Answer

Metal on Cloud is a Nairobi-based provider of single-tenant bare metal servers, managed colocation (from $99/U/mo), and cloud on-ramps, operating its own multi-homed network (AS203905) with internet exchange peering from a partner Tier-III data center in Nairobi. It serves customers across Kenya and the wider East Africa region.

Question 4

What is Bare Metal as a Service?

Accepted Answer

Bare Metal as a Service (BMaaS) is a single-tenant physical server delivered with the on-demand experience of the cloud: provisioned in seconds and billed month-to-month, but with no hypervisor and no shared tenants. It gives you the raw performance of dedicated hardware with the agility of cloud provisioning. Metal on Cloud's name reflects this model: bare metal, delivered like the cloud. It is different from cloud hosting (a virtualised slice of a shared machine) and from traditional dedicated servers (real hardware, but days or weeks to provision and locked into long contracts).

Question 5

How is Metal on Cloud different from cloud hosting?

Accepted Answer

Cloud hosting gives you a virtualised slice of a shared physical machine, with hypervisor overhead and noisy neighbours. Metal on Cloud gives you a whole single-tenant physical server, with no virtualization and no shared resources, while still being provisioned in seconds and billed month-to-month. You get the full, deterministic performance of the hardware with the on-demand experience of the cloud.

Question 6

How quickly are bare metal servers provisioned?

Accepted Answer

Servers are provisioned automatically within seconds of payment clearing, with the OS, network, and IPMI/KVM access ready immediately. There is no manual racking and no multi-day wait, because the hardware is already racked and ready in our Nairobi data center.

Question 7

Does Metal on Cloud have data centers in Kenya?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Metal on Cloud operates in Tier-III certified data centers in Nairobi, Kenya. We serve all of East Africa. Bare metal servers and managed colocation are live today.

Question 8

Is Metal on Cloud compliant with Kenya Data Protection Act?

Accepted Answer

Yes, our Nairobi facilities are fully compliant with the Kenya Data Protection Act (DPA 2019). Data stored in Kenya stays in Kenya.

Question 9

What is the starting price for dedicated bare metal servers in Kenya?

Accepted Answer

Metal on Cloud prices each server to the build: Dell R750, R640 or R630 with your choice of processors, memory, storage, IPs and bandwidth. Configure a server at metaloncloud.com/configure and we send the price and order form, usually within one business day. All plans are month-to-month with zero setup fees.

Question 10

How does colocation work at Metal on Cloud?

Accepted Answer

Metal on Cloud provides the rack space, power, and bundled internet connectivity on its own network from a partner Tier-III data center. Bandwidth is included in every colocation package, so colocation customers need no separate ISP. There is direct internet exchange peering in Nairobi for low-latency traffic. IPv4 blocks are available as an add-on ($50/mo per /29). Packages start at $99/U/mo.

Question 11
